{"id":42,"date":"2004-01-28T19:18:42","date_gmt":"2004-01-28T23:18:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/stepno\/2004\/01\/28\/whats-the-difference-between-blogs-and"},"modified":"2004-01-28T19:18:42","modified_gmt":"2004-01-28T23:18:42","slug":"whats-the-difference-between-blogs-and-rss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/stepno\/2004\/01\/28\/whats-the-difference-between-blogs-and-rss\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;What&#8217;s the difference between blogs and RSS?&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a48'><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That question from a writers&#8217; group e-mail list was just what I needed<br \/>\nto inspire me to try explaining RSS syndication to newcomers to the<br \/>\nblogging world. <\/p>\n<p>This will seem terribly over-simplified to Berkman folks, but I came up with three main issues: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>delivery (you go to blogs; RSS feeds come to you)\n  <\/li>\n<li>contents (RSS feeds can be headlines, summaries or more) <\/li>\n<li>reading tools (desktop and Web-based aggregators)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/radio.weblogs.com\/0106327\/stories\/2004\/01\/27\/whatsTheDifferenceBetweenB.html\">essay-page<\/a><br \/>\nthat grew out of my e-mail reply probably skates onto its thinnest ice<br \/>\nin the section headed &#8220;More technical info and abbreviations than you<br \/>\nneed&#8230;&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>I welcome corrections and suggestions, either as comments or e-mail.<br \/>\nFeel free to dope-slap me and just say, &#8220;Why didn&#8217;t you send them<br \/>\nhere?&#8221; (Adding the address of a page that does the job better.)
