I loved the original – cheezy synthesizers and all. I was a bit saddened to hear they made a remake because, quite honestly, remakes usually suck.

Anyway, Matt picked up the import of it brought it home for me (knowing I love Christmas music and that song). And I have to admit… I really like it! It’s quite different than the original, but still successful. It does sound a wee bit less Christmas-like than the original, but it’s quite pretty all the same.

I was able to determine the following artists this time around: Chris Martin, Dido, Robbie Williams and Bono (reprising the same line as 20 years ago: “Well, tonight thank God it’s them, instead of you.” However, I was clueless as to who the other artists were. I checked out their website: http://www.bandaid20.com and even after reading the list of participants, I was still clueless. I mean, I’ve read about nearly all of the artists in Q Magazine, but had never heard any of them perform. Consequently, I couldn’t tell which artist was which. Well, that’s sort of a lie. I own Travis CD’s and Divine Comedy CD’s but still couldn’t tell which vocalist was Fran Healy and Heil Hannon (unless they were just in the chorus).

I read this morning that the CD is not going to be released in the United States this time around, presumably because we don’t know any of the artists on this side of the pond (Matt picked up the import version). I think it’s a shame, though, since I actually enjoy it..and it’s for a good cause. Besides, Brit-pop has always been much better than Americanized pop.

Matt and I read Q Magazine each month (the far superior British equivalent of Rolling Stone) and in the recent issue they mentioned a remake of “Do They Know It’s Christmas”.
