Here’s the link, if you’re interested: http://www.zeitgeiststage.com/satan.htm

In other news, our friend, Chris, arrives today. As Matt has mentioned in his blog in recent weeks, Chris has been making and sending us some very cool mix CD’s of his favorite songs. Often, these mixes are inspired by specific events (one was inspired by a fun night in a NYC club). So, a few days ago I decided to make him a mix CD. Since from previous conversations he indicated that he’s missed out on much of the popular music of the early 80’s, I decided my mix CD would be of songs from my youth.

As many of you know – music has essentially been a soundtrack to my life. I’ll hear songs from my childhood and instantely be brought back to a memory associated with that song. For example, “Things Can Only Get Better” by Howard Jones makes me think of riding the school bus in middle school, “Alone” by Heart makes me think of vacation in Florida in 9th grade, “Xanadu” by Olivia Newton-John makes me think of 2nd grade class…singing along with my friend, Valerie. You get the picture.

So, using our slowly detiorating computer, I threw together a mix CD for Chris. All but two of the songs came out before 1984. I made an extra copy for me to test and listen to on the way to work. And, for the first time in my life – I think the mix CD sucks. I’m not sure what it is. I’ve always loved that music (and still do). But presenting the songs to a friend (who may or may not know many of the songs) has got me concerned that the music of the early 80’s did, in fact, suck. The songs on this mix all seem so simple and empty. Then again, as an 11 year old, that’s all I needed, I suppose.

Anyway, this mix includes: “The Stroke” (Billy Squier), “Tenderness” (General Public), “Johnny, Are You Queer?” (Josie Cotton), “Lucky Number” (Lene Lovitch), “Never Say Never” (Romeo Void)…in addition to some Belinda Carlisle, Jim Carroll, Tiny Lights, Gary Numan, Echo and the Bunnerymen and others.

I’m now debating whether to just toss the CD or actually give it to him…with my head hung low in embarrassment.

Truth be told, I don’t love Satan.
