According to the Boston Globe, the town’s only laundromat has closed down. And the nearest one is 4 towns and 27 miles away.

Since P-town only has 3,000 year round residents, the entire town is walkable and there is no need for a car (so many residents don’t own one). During the summer, the population increases to over 25,000 people (with the majority being gay and lesbian).

It’s not going to be a pretty picture this summer with all of those gay men wearing 3-day old underwear. Unless they’re like some friends of ours.

We went on an overnight trip with friends recently (one night!) and they brought a large suitcase and separate toiletry bag. We asked why they had so much and they said they had 4 different outfits…each!

I repeat…THIS WAS A 24 HOUR TRIP. But they said they brought two evening outfits (one casual, one dressier), an outfit for the next day, and a spare outfit in case anything happens. What the hell?

Believe it or not, they did ultimately change into at least 3 of the outfits. If they’re representative of the gay community (since Matt and I apparently are not – I just packed a single dufflebag with one pair of underwear and one pair of socks), then there are going to be some kick-ass cat-fights in P-town this summer! Because hell than no fury than a soiled queen.

People will either pack excessively – making them cranky as they lug their suitcase, toiletry bag, duffle bag, book bag of the ferry and walk to their room in the sweltering heat. Or they’ll wear dirty clothes and decrease they’re chances of getting some of that famous P-town action. This will then create sexual frustration, resulting in their crankiness, too.

It’ll be like the Bloods and the Crips…gay-style. The gangs will each come from different ends of the town and meet up at MacMillan Wharf for some fantasticly choreographed laundry-induced dancing and fighting. I can’t wait – I’m bringing my digital camera!

*For the record: the condo we’re renting has it’s own washer and dryer.

This should be an interesting summer in Provincetown.
