It was followed by a few more. I finally rolled over and opened my eyes and my apartment kept lighting up every few seconds. It was too loud to sleep through so I got up and went into the living room to sit on the sofa and look out the window.

It was a pretty impressive storm. For about 25 minutes or so the whole sky seemed like it was constantly lit up. Then as quickly as it started, it stopped. I went back to bed and woke up at 7AM to hear the news reports of quite a few house strikes in the Boston area.

Ironically, just days ago I was complaining to friends that we hadn’t had any good thunderstorms this summer. Last night’s storm also made me realize something. This was the first big middle-of-the-night thunderstorm Boston has had this year (beside that one single clap of thunder that woke me out of bed a month or so ago). Although I’m not afraid of the thunder/lightning, there is something about a night storm that makes me crave somebody to cuddle. It’s one of those things I like to share with another person. I guess I wouldn’t say it’s romantic…it just seems to create a moment.

But now that it’s morning and the moment is over – I’m perfectly content with my singledom!

The western half of the state was in a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 11PM last night.
