After the DVD ended, I turned back to network TV and, once again, stumbled upon another bizarre reality show that I fear I’m going to get sucked into.

This one is called “Fire Me, Please”. It is hosted by David Holmes – the guy that won the new VJ contest at MTV back in the 90’s. Actually, he came in second place to that annoying pseudo hippie/stoner, Jessie. Since the contest was left to the viewers to decide and the American public chose faked eccentricity over talent. Well, Jessie faded into obscurity (thankfully) and MTV hired Dave Holmes for various shows (which is good because I really liked him)*.

Now he is hosting this new game show/reality show where two contestants start new jobs (retail, restaurant) and try to get fired. Hidden cameras follow the employee around the store as the employee tries to piss off the manager. If the contestent doesn’t get fired, he/she loses. If both get fired, the employee who is fired the closest to 3PM (when their shift ends) wins $25,000.

And I got sucked in. My beloved Popularity Contest finale takes place this coming Saturday but now I’ll have this to watch. Life is going to become utter chaos when Big Brother starts up again in July.

However, I may not get suckered into bad TV much longer, because when I woke up this morning, my cable stopped working. All I could watch were the digital stations (like VH1-Classics). I wasn’t able to see any network stations. Maybe this is somebody’s way of telling me that I need to give the television a break and occupy my time in other ways.

But without TV, what else is there?

*Plus, my gaydar went off when I first saw him in the contest…and I was pleased to read, years later, that he had come out of the closet as gay.

Last night Rich came over and we watched some Strangers with Candy while we ate dinner.
