let&#8217;s say a 10% chance as of today, politics and actuarial tables considered.\u00a0 A provincial new-Earth creationist as President won&#8217;t have many people<strong> sleeping <\/strong>well at night.\u00a0 That said, her situation is largely the result of poor choices by others who should know better (and who are gambling with her future more than with their own).\u00a0 <strong>LisaNova <\/strong>does a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=d-QevraCQUc\">brilliant send-up<\/a> of the situation which should put a smile on your face.<\/p>\n<p>This week Palin has an uphill road to travel.\u00a0 National <strong>interviews<\/strong> can hardly be put off any longer, though <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?f=\/c\/a\/2008\/09\/30\/MNTB1374LU.DTL\">some still try<\/a>.\u00a0 On top of everything else, Palin faces the same big-pond effect that a small-town <strong>valedictorian <\/strong>and all-star finds on arriving at Rice University or Harvard or <strong>McGill<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Katie Couric<\/strong> has gotten the most face-time with Governor Palin, and has been courteous but firm.\u00a0 For Palin under pressure, it is <a href=\"http:\/\/mleddy.blogspot.com\/2008\/09\/couric-and-palin-and-orwell.html\">hard to think and speak at once<\/a>; some called her first interview <a href=\"http:\/\/andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com\/the_daily_dish\/2008\/09\/you-dont-say.html\">disastrous<\/a>, speaking <a href=\"http:\/\/wpcomics.washingtonpost.com\/client\/wpc\/po\/2008\/09\/09\/\">in tongues<\/a>, as <a href=\"http:\/\/andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com\/the_daily_dish\/2008\/09\/quote-for-th-35.html\">bad as could be<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 The campaign regretted the interview (confusing the bailout goals, knowing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/blogs\/jonathanmartin\/0908\/In_reintroduction_Palin_to_do_more_interviews_and_tell_her_story.html?showall\">only one Supreme Court case<\/a>) enough that she and John <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9RywhPtebuM\">returned for a second try<\/a> <em>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/stories\/2008\/09\/29\/eveningnews\/main4487826.shtml\">transcript<\/a>)<\/em>.\u00a0 Kathryn Lopez was reminded of <a href=\"http:\/\/corner.nationalreview.com\/post\/?q=YzRjZGU2NWU1MjU3ZmZiOTVlMTBmY2MzZmY2YTc0MDY=\">visiting the principal&#8217;s office<\/a> with her father.\u00a0 More <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2008\/09\/cbs_to_air_more_footage_of_cou.php\">clips to come<\/a> this week from <strong>CBS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Former fans of hers think she should <a href=\"http:\/\/article.nationalreview.com\/?q=MDZiMDhjYTU1NmI5Y2MwZjg2MWNiMWMyYTUxZDkwNTE=\">excuse herself from her nomination<\/a>.\u00a0 A few think putting Palin in this role so early in her career is <a href=\"http:\/\/warner.blogs.nytimes.com\/2008\/09\/25\/poor-sarah\/?em\">an act of <strong>cruelty<\/strong><\/a> on the part of McCain, <a href=\"http:\/\/ta-nehisicoates.theatlantic.com\/archives\/2008\/09\/sarah_we_are_not_that_different_you_and_i.php\">sacrificing a future star<\/a> of the <strong>party<\/strong>.\u00a0 Others complain of &#8216;overpreparation&#8217; and want Palin to stop parroting someone else&#8217;s <strong>lines<\/strong> and <a href=\"http:\/\/article.nationalreview.com\/?q=OTUzNTM3MDk0MmI3ZWM1N2ZkZDAwZTFmMjA5Nzk3MWM=\">just be herself<\/a> [<em>I cannot disagree &#8211;Ed.<\/em>]\u00a0 on occasion going so far as to take up cries of <em>&#8220;Free Sarah&#8221;<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As for the world beyond our borders &#8212;
