To the subject: <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Andrew Lin<\/span>, web advisor to the film, is a genius.  If someone can find me a <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">photo<\/span> of Mr. Lin, I will be grateful.&nbsp; Please note: 20th Century Fox didn&#8217;t recognize this, and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wtopnews.com\/?nid=114&amp;sid=582538\">scaled down the opening [weekend] after its market research suggested <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Borat<\/span> wasn&#8217;t grabbing viewer interest.<\/a>&#8221;&nbsp; I wonder if they cared about his 300k myspace friends, and their word of mouth.<\/p>\n<p>The film itself has some <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">long minutes<\/span> of complete genius, a few moments of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.broadcastingcable.com\/blog\/1380000138\/post\/250005225.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">extraordinary cameo acting<\/span><\/a>,<br \/>\nand a few pieces with poor cameos and that are childish compared to the<br \/>\nbest parts of the film.&nbsp; Best of all, it doesn&#8217;t make the kinds of<br \/>\nsloppy plot, pacing, or ambient mistakes that sometimes afflict films<br \/>\ndone by the numbers by a committee of experts.&nbsp; I might have caught<br \/>\nsome staged pieces, but there wasn&#8217;t a cue card out ofsight.<\/p>\n<p>I suppose that much of the reason for the abundance of set pieces (as compared to real pieces wreaking <a href=\"http:\/\/www.memphisflyer.com\/memphis\/Content?oid=oid%3A21325\">havoc<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/15175836\/site\/newsweek\/\">embarrassment<\/a>) is the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">weight and bulk<\/span><br \/>\nof modern film gear.&nbsp; Once we have publicly available crude production<br \/>\ngear that can be hidden on the regular clothes of a few people in the<br \/>\nvicinity, without looking like a film crew, this rich and twisted art<br \/>\ncan flourish further.&nbsp; Of course <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Andy Kaufman<\/span> and the <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Yes Men<\/span> managed quite well without a film crew at all&#8230; but found it hard to gross $30m a weekend or get <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Pamela Anderson<\/span> involved.&nbsp; Good news for <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">fans<\/span> of the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">genre<\/span>: there&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cinematical.com\/2006\/10\/24\/borat-the-kind-of-sequel\/\">another one<\/a> slated for next summer.<br \/><font size=\"1\"><br \/><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Question<\/span>: what physical dimensions must one consider when making a custom wife sack?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Question<\/span>:<br \/>\nwhat are Trey Parker and Matt Stone thanked for in the closing credits<br \/>\n&#8212; for inspiration, help with pulling off reality pieces, help with<br \/>\ncasting?&nbsp; Inquiring minds, &amp;c., &amp;c.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><a href='http:\/\/www.broadcastingcable.com\/blog\/1380000138\/post\/250005225.html'>Andrew Lin is a genius &#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of these days, I need to track down Ezra Keshet and take him to see Borat with me.
