also a<br \/>\nreminder that as a society of thinking creatures, we&#8217;re <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">far <\/span>from the<br \/>\ncentered and peaceful self-awarenesss that would lead to sober<br \/>\npredictions about the future.&nbsp; Danger, Will Robinson&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>For instance: if you really want to make <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">$100 machines<\/span> for the world,<br \/>\ndesign systems with easily-separable, interchangable parts.&nbsp; Don&#8217;t<br \/>\nrely on your own vision of <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">a hundred million machines<\/span> to provide<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><br \/>\n<\/span>spares for people; assume they will have their own spares.&nbsp; You<br \/>\ndon&#8217;t have to make &#8216;laptops&#8217; with catch closures on the monitors (which<br \/>\nbreak) and monitors tightly integrated with the body (with hinges that<br \/>\nbreak) and embedded keyboards (which get crumbs in them and eventually<br \/>\nneed to be replaced).&nbsp;
