{"id":2649,"date":"2012-07-02T17:09:06","date_gmt":"2012-07-02T21:09:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/sj\/?p=2649"},"modified":"2012-07-03T00:50:32","modified_gmt":"2012-07-03T04:50:32","slug":"sudo-make-me-a-free-internet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/sj\/2012\/07\/02\/sudo-make-me-a-free-internet\/","title":{"rendered":"Sudo make me an Internet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the past year, in the US, Italy and other countries, Internet communities have flexed their muscles and demonstrated their popularity and capacity for organizing public opinion, by convincing lawmakers not to pass bills that would have made life difficult for &#8216;Net service providers and site owners.  <\/p>\n<p>Recently, two US Congressmen who were important <a href=\"http:\/\/arstechnica.com\/tech-policy\/2012\/06\/sopa-opponents-unveil-digital-bill-of-rights\/\">opponents of SOPA<\/a> in the House and Senate, Darrell Issa and Ron Wyden, called for and then published a draft <a href=\"http:\/\/keepthewebopen.com\/digital-bill-of-rights\">Digital Citizen&#8217;s Bill of Rights<\/a>, which they opened for public annotation and comment. \u00a0(Kudos for the concept and quick turnaround &#8211; that&#8217;s a more direct engagement of readers than any other political effort I&#8217;ve seen recently.
