I&#8217;ll be kind and assume it&#8217;s one overworked<br \/>\nwebmaster with other obligations] hasn&#8217;t had the time to update their<br \/>\nmain page content to mention Katrina or link to relief efforts.&nbsp;<br \/>\nClearly a northerner.&nbsp; A 6-page <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ready.gov\/npm\/releases.htm\">press release<\/a> sent out today had two mentions of Katrina edited in at the last moment.&nbsp; The title of the release, &#8220;<strong>COALITION FORCES MORE THAN DOUBLE IN SIZE TO JOIN HOMELAND<br \/>\nSECURITY AND THE AMERICAN RED CROSS FOR NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH 2005<\/strong>&#8220;,<br \/>\nlike its subtitle and leading paragraph, read like so much meaningless<br \/>\ncopy, as though there were no disasters actually taking place at the<br \/>\nmoment.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>If you see Homeland Security Secretary <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Michael Chertoff<\/span> or American Red Cross Chairman <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Bonnie McElveen-Hunter<\/span><br \/>\nduring their appearances today in DC, please thank them for me; each of<br \/>\nthem added a single sentence about Katrina to their quotes in the<br \/>\nrelease.&nbsp; Ms. McElveen-Hunter is quoted as saying, <\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">In the<br \/>\nterrible aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, there could be no more<br \/>\nimportant message than the need for Americans to get prepared for the<br \/>\nnext disaster.<\/span>  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>I hope the&nbsp; need to help with the current disaster is next on the &#8220;important messages&#8221; priority list.<\/p>\n<p>\n Some local reps to contact to find out how well these national activities are preparing citizens for emergencies :<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Tom Kirkpatrick<\/span> of Louisiana Citizen Corps (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ready.gov\/npm\/states\/tkirkpatrick@ohsep.louisiana.gov\">tkirkpatrick@ohsep.louisiana.gov<\/a> |&nbsp; (225) 925-1766 )<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Suzanne Lewis<\/span> of the<br \/>\nMississippi Emergency Management Agency (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ready.gov\/npm\/states\/slewis@msema.org\">slewis@msema.org<\/a> | (601) 352-9100 ).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href='http:\/\/www.ready.gov\/npm\/index.htm'>Right on schedule, it&#8217;s&#8230; National Preparedness Month! &#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The site maintainer[s?
