{"id":306,"date":"2006-11-18T14:24:33","date_gmt":"2006-11-18T18:24:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/shlep\/2006\/11\/18\/halt-moves-on\/"},"modified":"2006-11-18T14:31:28","modified_gmt":"2006-11-18T18:31:28","slug":"halt-moves-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/shlep\/2006\/11\/18\/halt-moves-on\/","title":{"rendered":"HALT moves on"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Editor&#8217;s Note<\/em>:\u00a0 I&#8217;m sorry to report that the legal reform group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.halt.org\/\"><strong>HALT<\/strong><\/a> has withdrawn from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.halt.org\/about_halt\/staff\/\">Team s<em>hlep<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"21\" alt=\"HALTover\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/shlep\/files\/2006\/11\/HALTBestBuyOver.jpg\" width=\"90\" \/>\u00a0Two days ago, I expressed to HALT&#8217;s Executive Director <a href=\"http:\/\/www.halt.org\/about_halt\/staff\/\">James C. Turner<\/a>\u00a0a preference for postings by HALT that relate to self-help law issues (rather than, in that instance,\u00a0a suggested piece amplifying on the recent <em>Legal Times<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.com\/jsp\/dc\/PubArticleFriendlyDC.jsp?id=1162980315022\">article<\/a>,\u00a0&#8220;Is He a Qualified Candidate&#8221;?, Nov. 13, 2006,\u00a0which related\u00a0to court challenges, by political opponents,\u00a0to qualifications for candidates for state Attorney General).\u00a0 In response, Jim announced the organization&#8217;s withdrawal from participation in\u00a0<em>shlep<\/em> and asked that I remove HALT&#8217;s materials from this website.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sorry that a relationship that seemed so promising has been ended.\u00a0 I want to thank HALT staffer Mary Thuell for her goodwill and hard work putting together HALT&#8217;s weekly <em>shlep<\/em> posting over the past month.\u00a0 I wish Jim and the entire HALT staff well in their efforts, as they say, &#8220;<em>helping all Americans handle their legal affairs simply, affordably and equitably<\/em>.&#8221;\u00a0 I want to assure our readers that I will continue to report here on important HALT activities (from advocacy, to reports, to publications) of interest to self-help law consumers and practitioners.\u00a0 Meanwhile, in a world filled with legal reform issues, I hope to keep <em>shlep<\/em> focused on its mission: helping to expand and improve the self-help law movement.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em>p.s.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"27\" alt=\"HALTBestBuy\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/shlep\/files\/2006\/11\/HALTBestBuy.gif\" width=\"115\" \/> Don&#8217;t forget HALT&#8217;s compilation of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.halt.org\/self_help_resources\/special_offers\/\">Do-It-Yourself Best Buys<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0its special\u00a0primer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.halt.org\/legal_information_clearinghouse\/everyday_law\/going_it_alone.php\">Going It Alone In Court<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Editor&#8217;s Note:\u00a0 I&#8217;m sorry to report that the legal reform group HALT has withdrawn from Team shlep. \u00a0Two days ago, I expressed to HALT&#8217;s Executive Director James C.
