First of all, if you don’t have a car and are too lazy to rent one, check out Macy’s in downtown Boston. This is a very large store ith many popular brands, offering pretty decent discounts on clothes, jewelry, perfumes, etc. (click for a map). Lord&Taylor on Boylston street is also worth checking out, just as Marshall’s (locations in Watertown and Somerville).

Primark, a popular European quality, yet affordable, brand has opened in 2015 near Downtown Crossing in Boston.

If you are looking for even larger discounts, however, there is a really nice outlet near Boston (click for a map here). For those of you who are unfamiliar with the idea: an outlet is a very large collection of stores (with brands such as Calvin Klein, Banana Republic, Hugo Boss, Burberry, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, etc.) where they offer really very competitive discounts (reaching 70-80% of the “market price” sometimes, even if it does not mean much).

Important tips at the outlet:
– check out ahead the dates, since often there are additional promotions on major American holidays, such as Labor Day, etc. During regular week, Thursday before afternoon is the best time to go (already often stocked up for the weekend, still few people),
– go to the info desk to ask for a “VIP card” (a piece of paper, really) – this will give you even bigger discounts in some stores, and it normally costs only 5$, while students even get it for free (bring your student ID),
– check the outlet newsletter available near the info kiosk, sometimes larger discounts are offered there,
– always try the clothes on: in some outlets the sizes may differ even within the same brand and line of clothes.

Websites, such as Abercrombie or Calvin Klein regularly offer online-only discounts and promotions.
