It takes two to Tango!
Mar 9th, 2011 by bachmann
The Tango craze of the early 20th Century is captured in this unique publication by Samuel Beach Chester. He states in the beginning of the book:
“Whether the Tango is due to insanity, or whether the
insanity is due to the Tango, it is impossible to say! But
the Tango lives, thrives and nourishes in thousands of
heads which govern feet, large and small — feet which dance
to Paradise or perdition, as the case may be. Even the
German Emperor, who has lost much of his former glory
as a notorious person, threatens to re-enter the arena of
fame, again, by his association, or disassociation, with the
Tango!”

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am a Greek Ph.D candidate and my thesis is on tango in Greece during the Interwar period. Because of the french musical predispositions in Greece, I am very interested in the book written by Chester, Samuel Beach “The Secrets of the Tango” (1914). The book is recently out of stock and I have also tried to find it in a few European libraries (Munich, Athens, Paris), but with no luck. I truly apologize for writing you this mail, but I saw on internet that you have this book in your library and thought that you might could help me someway reading it. It is a very important book for my thesis and it would definitely help me to finish my Ph.D. I would really appreciate it if you could send me some further information about the possibilities of sending me a copy of it, and charging me of course for this procedure.
thank you very much
Sincerely Yours,
Aggeliki koufou
