{"id":6,"date":"2007-02-06T19:09:31","date_gmt":"2007-02-06T23:09:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/pon1\/2007\/02\/06\/busy-week\/"},"modified":"2007-02-09T13:14:20","modified_gmt":"2007-02-09T17:14:20","slug":"busy-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/pon1\/2007\/02\/06\/busy-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Busy week!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today started off pretty relaxed, and now as I\u2019m getting ready to leave for the day I feel like I have a ton on my plate for the rest of the week.\u00a0 Things to think about include: the internship fair, various projects for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.harvard.edu\/faculty\/directory\/facdir.php?id=137\" target=\"_blank\">Bob Bordone<\/a>, the <a title=\"Negotiation Workshop\" href=\"http:\/\/www.law.harvard.edu\/academics\/registrar\/negotiation-workshop\/spring.php\" target=\"_blank\">Negotiation Workshop<\/a>&#8230; the list goes on.\u00a0 But I\u2019m happy about that; I\u2019ve always felt that I actually thrive on that feeling of nearly being overwhelmed.\u00a0 I also had a really good meeting with Sarah today where we basically organized ourselves for the near future.\u00a0 So I\u2019m pretty psyched up for the next few days.<br \/>\n<span \/><\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow and Thursday I\u2019m filling in for a couple <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pon.org\/catalog\/advanced_search_result.php?quicksearch=negotiation+simulations+\" target=\"_blank\">negotiation simulations<\/a> for the Workshop \u2013 which means I\u2019ll actually get to negotiate!\u00a0 I\u2019m feeling a mix between huge excitement and huge apprehension.\u00a0 In tomorrow\u2019s simulation, I play a lawyer for a movie producer.\u00a0 Now, I know little to nothing about law, and the majority of the other students in the class are HLS people \u2013 so I hope I\u2019m not out-teched.\u00a0 And although I do have experience in mediation, I would imagine that being a facilitating third party feels quite different than actually sitting down and having to reach a settlement that protects your interests.\u00a0<br \/>\n<span \/><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll just have to keep reminding myself that lots of successful negotiators don\u2019t have law degrees (\u2026right?), and that facing aggressiveness in a negotiation, while intimidating, shouldn\u2019t cause me to lose confidence.\u00a0 When I consider real-life situations in the past that have involved negotiation, I realize that I\u2019m much less worried about exploding in a fit of anger than I am about making so many compromises and concessions that I\u2019m unhappy with the outcome.\u00a0 It will be interesting to see what types of mediation skills are transferable to a one-on-one negotiation setting.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today started off pretty relaxed, and now as I\u2019m getting ready to leave for the day I feel like I have a ton on my plate for the rest of the week.\u00a0 Things to think about include: the internship fair, various projects for Bob Bordone, the Negotiation Workshop&#8230; the list goes on.\u00a0 But I\u2019m happy [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":920,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1287],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-6","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-pon-intern"],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/pon1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/pon1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/pon1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/pon1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/920"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/pon1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=6"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/pon1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/pon1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=6"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/pon1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=6"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/pon1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=6"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
