Mundell<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Researchers have discovered that cells in the mucosal lining of<br \/>\nhuman genitalia produce a protein that &#8220;eats up&#8221; invading HIV &#8212;<br \/>\npossibly keeping the spread of the AIDS more contained than it might<br \/>\notherwise be.<\/p>\n<p>Even more important, enhancing the activity of this protein, called<br \/>\nLangerin, could be a potent new way to curtail the transmission of the<br \/>\nvirus that causes AIDS, the Dutch scientists added.<\/p>\n<p>Langerin is produced by Langerhans cells, which form a web-like<br \/>\nnetwork in skin and mucosa.
