{"id":206,"date":"2009-06-24T17:29:32","date_gmt":"2009-06-24T21:29:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/pamphlet\/?p=206"},"modified":"2009-06-24T17:30:46","modified_gmt":"2009-06-24T21:30:46","slug":"206","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/pamphlet\/2009\/06\/24\/206\/","title":{"rendered":"Institute of Education Sciences has an open access policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I haven&#8217;t seen it discussed anywhere, but it seems that the <a href=\"http:\/\/ies.ed.gov\/\">Institute of Education Sciences<\/a> in the Department of Education is now requiring its funded research be made openly available through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eric.ed.gov\/\">ERIC repository<\/a>. The policy looks analogous to <a href=\"http:\/\/publicaccess.nih.gov\/\">that of the NIH<\/a>.\u00a0 The pertinent clause from the <a href=\"http:\/\/ies.ed.gov\/funding\/pdf\/2010_84305G.pdf\">current IES Request for Applications<\/a> is:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">Recipients of awards are expected to publish or otherwise make publicly available the results of the work supported through this program.\u00a0 Institute-funded investigators should submit final, peer-reviewed manuscripts resulting from research supported in whole or in part by the Institute to the Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC, http:\/\/eric.ed.gov) upon acceptance for publication.\u00a0 An author&#8217;s final manuscript is defined as the final version accepted for journal publication, and includes all graphics and supplemental materials that are associated with the article.\u00a0 The Institute will make the manuscript available to the public through ERIC no later than 12 months after the official date of publication.
