I prefer to get out sooner and
\nwalk but he refuses to pull over and let me out before we’ve arrived
\nthere. This irritates me. I take advantage of some opportunity, perhaps
\na red light, to open the door myself and get out, leaving Alfonso
\nbehind. I then enter a passage leading underground. I descend further
\nand eventually reach an underground train (more like the shuttles found
\nin airports than a city subway train). I expect it to take me to my
\ndestination, which lies in South America. It doesn’t–something
\nunexpected brings the train to a halt before we get there. But somehow
\nI get there anyway. My journey terminates at a very modern-looking
\nbuilding–solid, marble walls, many straight angles, subdued colours
\nand imposing dimensions. This building houses ancient, sacred objects,
\nexcavated in Israel and Syria and sent here to South America. There are
\nseveral levels. Each one looks out onto those below and to what lies
\nbeyond the structure. Although the building seems to be an independent
\nstructure, it isn’t in open space. Rather, my whole voyage has
\ntranspired in an underground complex. I don’t see open sky at any point
\nafter going underground. I ascend on an escalator to the first floor,
\nwhich is several meters above the ground level I walked. I don’t recall
\nif I see the sacred objects. What I do find is some sort of library,
\nwith books on plinths rather than on shelves. I find a book there by
\nRudolph Steiner. (Note: in waking life, I noticed one of Steiner’s
\nworks at my prof’s house last night, just to the left of Thomas Mann. I
\nguess my mind incorporated this into the dream.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
In the dream, I first approach my destination through very banal means: I’m on a bus with Alfonso, apparently nearing my high school.
