{"id":1510,"date":"2004-08-05T00:05:23","date_gmt":"2004-08-05T04:05:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/nateptest\/2004\/08\/05\/ive-liked-laura-bush-for-a-reason\/"},"modified":"2004-08-05T00:05:23","modified_gmt":"2004-08-05T04:05:23","slug":"ive-liked-laura-bush-for-a-reason","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/natep\/2004\/08\/05\/ive-liked-laura-bush-for-a-reason\/","title":{"rendered":"I&#8217;ve liked Laura Bush for a reason&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a481'><\/a><\/p>\n<p><P>BF, a friend of ours, and I have thought in the past about creating the &#8220;Gays who love Laura&#8221; fan club.&nbsp; She&#8217;s wonderfully subversive of her husband&#8217;s administration sometimes&#8230;.&nbsp; When asked what party she belongs to, she&#8217;s been reported as saying, &#8220;I&#8217;m a Republican&#8230;by marriage.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>So <A href=\"http:\/\/story.news.yahoo.com\/news?tmpl=story&amp;cid=544&amp;ncid=693&amp;e=2&amp;u=\/ap\/20040803\/ap_on_go_pr_wh\/laura_bush_media\">here she is<\/A>, talking about the news media: <\/P><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<P>First lady Laura Bush thinks the news media is increasingly filled with opinions instead of facts, and suggested Tuesday that journalists are contributing to the polarization of the country. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>&#8220;I think there are a lot of reasons to be critical of the media in America,&#8221; she said in an interview Tuesday with Fox News Channel&#8217;s &#8220;The O&#8217;Reilly Factor.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>&#8220;I think that a lot of times the media sensationalize or magnify things that aren&#8217;t _that really shouldn&#8217;t be,&#8221; she said.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>&#8220;I do think there&#8217;s a big move away from actual reporting, trying to report facts,&#8221; the first lady said. &#8220;It&#8217;s in newspapers and everything you read &#151; that a lot more is opinion.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>When her interviewer suggested that journalists were out of sync with most of the country, she said with a laugh: &#8220;You just gave me a really great idea.
