Blogger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a411'><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This dichotomy is the one that we&#8217;ve been asked about a bunch of times<br \/>\nsince we got here yesterday.&nbsp; All the reporters want to know<br \/>\nhow\/why we&#8217;re in contention with them.<\/p>\n<p>This <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/politicselections\/nation\/2004-07-26-convention-bloggers_x.htm\">USA Today piece<\/a> (blech, a paper I would never have read if it hadn&#8217;t been for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/blogs\/dnc\/2004\/07\/tuesday_so_far.html\">Dave Weinberger&#8217;s link<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>We get lots of visits up in the blogger area near the ceiling of the<br \/>\nmain hall of the Fleet Center.&nbsp; And everyone&#8217;s curious as to why<br \/>\nwe&#8217;re here.&nbsp; I&#8217;ve explained more times than I can recall that I&#8217;m<br \/>\nnot a journalist, that I&#8217;m not trying to compete, that I don&#8217;t think<br \/>\nthat I am really doing the same thing that they are.<\/p>\n<p>The dust-up yesterday morning between David Weinberger and Walter Mears<br \/>\nwas more interesting than contentious, and the press that have noted it<br \/>\nhave played it more as the second.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/akma.disseminary.org\/archives\/001472.html\">AKMA tightens up Dave&#8217;s question quite a bit<\/a>,<br \/>\nimproving upon it, and at the same time explaining why it is that the<br \/>\nbloggers and many non-bloggers don&#8217;t trust the mainstream media in<br \/>\ntheir claims of objectivity.&nbsp; We all know that no one can be truly<br \/>\nobjective.&nbsp; Take, for example, this morning&#8217;s coverage of the<br \/>\nspeeches given here at the convention last night.&nbsp; Look at your<br \/>\nlocal paper and the New York Times.&nbsp; Probably fairly different<br \/>\ntakes on the same event.&nbsp; If the source were truly &#8220;objective,&#8221;<br \/>\nthen why aren&#8217;t the reports the same in tone and so forth?&nbsp;<br \/>\nMoreso, why aren&#8217;t they pulling the same quotes from the speeches?<\/p>\n<p>All right, enough of this navel gazing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This dichotomy is the one that we&#8217;ve been asked about a bunch of times since we got here yesterday.&nbsp; All the reporters want to know how\/why we&#8217;re in contention with them.
