{"id":1437,"date":"2004-06-09T14:32:01","date_gmt":"2004-06-09T18:32:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/nateptest\/2004\/06\/09\/amidst-the-hagiography\/"},"modified":"2004-06-09T14:32:01","modified_gmt":"2004-06-09T18:32:01","slug":"amidst-the-hagiography","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/natep\/2004\/06\/09\/amidst-the-hagiography\/","title":{"rendered":"Amidst the hagiography&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a343'><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;a good article regarding the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonmonthly.com\/features\/2003\/0301.green.html\">reality of Reagan&#8217;s legacy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m watching the service from National Cathedral right now &#8212;<br \/>\nceremonialist that I am &#8212; and I hadn&#8217;t realized that Senator John<br \/>\nDanforth was ordained to the priesthood.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s been much about Reagan&#8217;s greatness in the last few days, and I<br \/>\nwonder if most of the public and news leaders have not mistaken<br \/>\npopularity for greatness.&nbsp; Reagan was extremely popular (although<br \/>\nI am glad to say, for all their faults, not in my nuclear family), but<br \/>\nI wonder if we won&#8217;t need another three or four decades to understand<br \/>\nwhether or not the events that occurred on his watch were to his credit<br \/>\nor not.&nbsp; I&#8217;m still willing to reserve judgment.&nbsp; I think that<br \/>\nwe&#8217;re only now able to assess these things from a great distance &#8212;<br \/>\nit&#8217;s only now that we can look at Eisenhower and see that he was much<br \/>\ngreater than we knew at the time.<\/p>\n<p>More later&#8230;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;a good article regarding the reality of Reagan&#8217;s legacy.
