We will cease to treat them as individuals, and we will ask<br \/>\nwhat &#8220;the Jews think.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Lately, my phone won&#x2019;t stop ringing. <\/p>\n<p>Because suddenly Jews are interesting again,<br \/>\nfascinating, unusual and targeted. Because suddenly, everyone wants a<br \/>\nstatement. They want me<br \/>\nto say I&#x2019;m scared to death, or they want me to say I&#x2019;m not frightened<br \/>\nat all. They want me to resurrect the Holocaust, proclaim that I don&#x2019;t<br \/>\nthink violence will erupt, but that my grandparents didn&#x2019;t think it<br \/>\nwould erupt in Berlin.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn&#x2019;t really matter what I say, so long as it fits into the<br \/>\ncolumn, and so long as it&#x2019;s a defined position, symbolic of all the<br \/>\nemotions of my chosen people, my Jewish race.
