{"id":1348,"date":"2003-11-04T10:23:09","date_gmt":"2003-11-04T14:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/nateptest\/2003\/11\/04\/all-the-furor-over-god\/"},"modified":"2003-11-04T10:23:09","modified_gmt":"2003-11-04T14:23:09","slug":"all-the-furor-over-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/natep\/2003\/11\/04\/all-the-furor-over-god\/","title":{"rendered":"All the furor over God"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a157'><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A quote I read in National Geographic once summed up the problem.&nbsp;<br \/>\nIt came from a Berber Muslim shepherd and referred to people who commit<br \/>\nacts of hate and violence: &#8220;Because God is mostly silent, some people<br \/>\nthink they can do whatever they want in His name.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I, of course, think of this in regard to those who would leave the<br \/>\nchurch over Gene Robinson&#8217;s ordination.&nbsp; Those people probably<br \/>\nthink the same of us who gathered in that hockey rink on Sunday to<br \/>\nassent to his election as bishop.&nbsp; And I&#8217;d hope that God&#8217;s silence<br \/>\non the matter pushes us to keep working out our faith in love for one<br \/>\nanother.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">&#8220;Beloved, let us love one<br \/>\nanother.&nbsp; For love is of God, and everyone who loves is born of<br \/>\nGod and knows God.&nbsp; He that does not love does not know God, for<br \/>\nGod is love.Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one<br \/>\nanother.
