{"id":1168,"date":"2005-03-31T09:24:19","date_gmt":"2005-03-31T13:24:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/nateptest\/2005\/03\/31\/religious-unity-achieved-in-jerusal"},"modified":"2005-03-31T09:24:19","modified_gmt":"2005-03-31T13:24:19","slug":"religious-unity-achieved-in-jerusalem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/natep\/2005\/03\/31\/religious-unity-achieved-in-jerusalem\/","title":{"rendered":"Religious unity achieved in Jerusalem!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a975'><\/a><\/p>\n<p>During Holy Week, it&#8217;s traditional for Christians to pray for the peace<br \/>\nand unity of Jerusalem (at least, it&#8217;s been traditional in the last<br \/>\ncentury).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/03\/31\/international\/worldspecial\/31gay.html?partner=rssnyt\">Who&#8217;d have thought we would get it so quickly?<\/a>&nbsp; All it too was the threat of thousands of homosexuals in the streets.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>International gay leaders are planning a 10-day WorldPride festival<br \/>\nand parade in Jerusalem in August, saying they want to make a statement<br \/>\nabout tolerance and diversity in the Holy City, home to three great<br \/>\nreligious traditions. <\/p>\n<p> Now major leaders of the three faiths &#8211;<br \/>\nChristianity, Judaism and Islam &#8211; are making a rare show of unity to<br \/>\ntry to stop the festival. They say the event would desecrate the city<br \/>\nand convey the erroneous impression that homosexuality is acceptable.\n  <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The best part of this is how the alert was spread.&nbsp; I can&#8217;t help but laugh&#8230;.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The American evangelical leader who helped to galvanize the opposition,<br \/>\nMr. Giovinetti, is the senior pastor of Mission Valley Christian<br \/>\nFellowship, an independent church that meets in a hotel in Southern<br \/>\nCalifornia&#8230;.<br \/>\nBy all accounts Mr. Giovinetti played a crucial role in spreading the<br \/>\nfirst alarms among religious leaders about the gay festival.<br \/>\nHe said he had first heard about WorldPride from a congregation member<br \/>\nwho had told Mr. Giovinetti that he was gay for many years and still<br \/>\nmonitored gay Web sites&#8230;.\n  <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So some ex-gay who couldn&#8217;t control himself and went cruising<br \/>\non-line for porn&#8211;I mean, taking it upon himself to monitor websites<br \/>\nfor items of obscene or poor taste&#8211; went tattling after he relieved<br \/>\nthe urge, the need, the duty to &#8220;monitor.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>What went through the reporters&#8217; minds when they heard <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">that<\/span>?\n<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d try to be outraged, but I&#8217;m rolling on the floor.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During Holy Week, it&#8217;s traditional for Christians to pray for the peace and unity of Jerusalem (at least, it&#8217;s been traditional in the last century).
