{"id":1142,"date":"2005-02-04T11:48:37","date_gmt":"2005-02-04T15:48:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/nateptest\/2005\/02\/04\/obituary\/"},"modified":"2005-02-04T11:48:37","modified_gmt":"2005-02-04T15:48:37","slug":"obituary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/natep\/2005\/02\/04\/obituary\/","title":{"rendered":"Obituary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a919'><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My great-uncle, Noel Kincaid, died in New Mexico recently.&nbsp; He was 87.<\/p>\n<p>I never got to meet him, but I&#8217;ve heard much about him over the<br \/>\nyears.&nbsp; He has always sounded like a man much-loved and respected.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.currentargus.com\/cgi-bin\/artman\/exec\/view.cgi?archive=594&amp;num=11262\">His obituary came out earlier this week<\/a>, and it seems he was even more respected than I had known.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><font>&#8230;He knew the place he called home and raised his three children was soon to become a national park.<\/font><\/p>\n<p>  <font>Meanwhile, as politicians came to view the Guadalupes, the Kincaid<br \/>\nkitchen table at the small Frijole ranch house was a place where many<br \/>\nnotable politicians ate their meals during their visit to the<br \/>\nGuadalupes. One such notable was Chief Justice William O. Douglas who<br \/>\ndedicated a chapter in his book &#x201C;Farewell to Texas&#x201D; about his<br \/>\nexperience in the back country with Kincaid, his dry sense of humor and<br \/>\nhis mule train.<\/font><\/p>\n<p>  <font><br \/>\nIn his book that discusses the proposal of turning the Guadalupe<br \/>\nMountains Ranch into a national park and the effort it took to get the<br \/>\ndesignation, Douglas said: &#x201C;Noel Kincaid, who is not only a good ranch<br \/>\nforeman and justice of the peace, but also the best architect of hot<br \/>\nbiscuits I knew, spoke up and to say, &#x2018;No road should ever git beyond<br \/>\nthis here Lodge.&#x201D;<\/font>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/gumo\/gumo\/frijole.htm\"><br \/>\nI hope to visit Guadalupe Mountains National Park someday<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My great-uncle, Noel Kincaid, died in New Mexico recently.&nbsp; He was 87.
