{"id":1129,"date":"2005-01-20T09:58:10","date_gmt":"2005-01-20T13:58:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/nateptest\/2005\/01\/20\/summer-camps-over\/"},"modified":"2005-01-20T09:58:10","modified_gmt":"2005-01-20T13:58:10","slug":"summer-camps-over","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/natep\/2005\/01\/20\/summer-camps-over\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer camp&#8217;s over"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a877'><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;And, yes, I have returned from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asu.edu\/clas\/polisci\/cqrm\/institute.html\">methods camp<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On some level, it really was like summer camp &#8212; the intense experience<br \/>\nthat forges apparently meaningful friendships.&nbsp; Only time will<br \/>\ntell how many of these people will end up being actual friends (as<br \/>\nopposed to conference drinking buddies &#8212; which are valuable, too,<br \/>\ndon&#8217;t get me wrong).&nbsp; But the re-entry to the real world is<br \/>\ndisorienting.&nbsp; As one friend (I&#8217;m pretty sure about that) put it:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div>so, I can&#8217;t help thinking that it&#8217;s incredibly irresponsible of<br \/>\n[the organizers] to let all of as leave Arizona without some sort of<br \/>\nreal world reentry program. I&#8217;ve spent the weekend in seclusion in my<br \/>\napartment; there are so many bloody PEOPLE all over the place and I&#8217;m<br \/>\ngetting tired of continually thinking I see someone from IQRM and then<br \/>\nhaving them turn around and feeling disappointed and disoriented<br \/>\n(again). I figure, though, if IQRM was a temporary retreat to<br \/>\nadolescence, then each day I can regain a year and within a couple<br \/>\nweeks be back to my normal, somewhat jaded, less drama-prone self.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Yes.&nbsp; Drama.&nbsp; That&#8217;s another element of summer camp.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s to re-integration with our fellow jaded day-to-day life people&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE: <a href=\"http:\/\/aufheben.org\/blog\/index.php\/archives\/2005\/01\/18\/so-very-cold\/\">Andrew puts it thus<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I got an email today from someone I was out there with&#x2026; and talk about<br \/>\nwarmth. I fear that I may have made lifelong friends in two short<br \/>\nweeks. It, of course, remains to be seen if the two weeks out west was<br \/>\nreally a Breakfast Club type of thing. But here&#x2019;s to hoping that it<br \/>\nisn&#x2019;t. I&#x2019;m too old for those kind of things anymore, and besides, these<br \/>\npeople wear well.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Precisely.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;And, yes, I have returned from methods camp.
