The study found babies born with birth defects involving the intestinal tract have a two in five chance of dying in a low-income country compared to one in five in a middle-income country and one in twenty in a high-income country.<\/p>\n<p>The team of researchers included many distinguished Paediatric Surgeons from around the Globe under Dr <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Naomi-Wright-6\">Naomi Wright<\/a>. The list included key figures from around the World as Prof <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baps.org.uk\/committees\/baps\/international-affairs-committee\/baps-international-affairs-committee-scholars\/dr-adesoji-o-ademuyiwa-mbbs-ibfwacs-fmcs-paed-facs\/\">Adesoji Ademuyiwa<\/a> (Nigeria), Prof <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalsurgery.ox.ac.uk\/team\/kokila-lakhoo\">Kokila Lakhoo<\/a> (Oxford, UK), Dr <a href=\"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-7776-9684\">Emrah Aydin<\/a> (Turkey), Prof <a href=\"https:\/\/mahmoudelfiky.com\">Mahmoud<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/scholar.google.com.eg\/citations?user=cTHfVjcAAAAJ\">Elfiky<\/a> (Egypt) and Prof <a href=\"https:\/\/za.linkedin.com\/in\/milind-chitnis-38067412\">Milind Chitnis<\/a> (South Africa).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/globalpaedsurg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Infographic-final2.png\" alt=\"LANCET\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The study also highlights the importance of perioperative care (the care received either side of the corrective operation or procedure) at the children\u2019s surgical centre. Babies treated at hospitals without access to ventilation and intravenous nutrition when needed had a higher chance of dying.
