Story Theory<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n

The conflict between the Euclidean, or <\/font>“diamond” theory of truth<\/font><\/a>, and the Trudeau, or <\/font>“story” theory of truth<\/font><\/a>, continues.<\/font><\/p>\n

On this, Hugh Grant’s birthday, let us recall last year’s <\/font>log24 entry for this date<\/font><\/a>. On Roger Ebert’s review of the Hugh Grant film “Sirens” about the artist Norman Lindsay:<\/font><\/p>\n

\n

Ebert gets Pan wrong in this film; he says, “the
\nbearded Lindsay is a Pan of sorts.” No. The “Pan of sorts” is in fact
\nthe girl who romps joyfully with the local boys and who later, with
\ngreat amusement, uses her divine x-ray vision to view Tara Fitzgerald
\nnaked in church.<\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This year’s offering for Grant’s birthday is an
\nillustrated prayer by a great defender of the religious, or “story,”
\ntheory of truth, Madeleine L’Engle:<\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n
