{"id":68,"date":"2003-07-11T21:10:14","date_gmt":"2003-07-12T01:10:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/lydondev\/2003\/07\/11\/were-desperate-for-these-conversatio"},"modified":"2012-05-04T00:06:25","modified_gmt":"2012-05-04T04:06:25","slug":"were-desperate-for-these-conversations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/lydondev\/2003\/07\/11\/were-desperate-for-these-conversations\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;We&#8217;re Desperate for these Conversations&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a171'><\/a><\/p>\n<p><P><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"4\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The <A href=\"http:\/\/media.skybuilders.com\/lydon\/behrle.mp3\">&#8220;spoken word&#8221;&nbsp;tour<\/A> of the blogosphere&nbsp;continues.&nbsp; <A href=\"http:\/\/media.skybuilders.com\/lydon\/behrle.mp3\">Here<\/A> is the poet and provocateur Jim Behrle&#8217;s walk around the blog landscape&#8211;for poets.&nbsp; You can check Jim&#8217;s own blog (as I do, every few hours) at <A href=\"http:\/\/jimsmonkey.blogspot.com\/\">Jim&#8217;s Monkey<\/A>.&nbsp; Jim is master of the revels at the <A href=\"http:\/\/ishop.wordsworth.com\/home\/mainpage.asp?sessionID=ww211628301485421&amp;from=wordsworth\">Wordsworth<\/A>&nbsp;bookstore&nbsp;in Harvard Square, also a <A href=\"http:\/\/boston.redsox.mlb.com\/NASApp\/mlb\/index.jsp?c_id=bos\">Red Sox<\/A> fan, a skillful writer in many modes, a well-known literary connector.&nbsp; His blog runs from the borderline offensive to the lyrical.&nbsp;&nbsp;It&#8217;s always on, often hilarious, plugged in to hundreds of other blogging poets.&nbsp; So he seemed like the right guy to check the pulse of electronic poetry half-hidden behind the bookshelves in the heart of academe.<A href=\"http:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/ipa\/heaney\/\"><IMG hspace=\"10\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ibiblio.org\/ipa\/pics\/seamus-mid.gif\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"10\"><A><\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"4\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The atmosphere of poetic blogspace is different from, shall we say, the <A href=\"http:\/\/www.westminster-abbey.org\/tour\/poet_corner.htm\">Poets&#8217; Corner<\/A> in Westminster Abbey.&nbsp; It feels, as I said to Jim in conversation, like the back of the classroom in junior high school: the place where the liberated, funny,&nbsp; cool, dangerous, expressive cats hang out rather noisily. &nbsp;But it&#8217;s also amazingly populous, energized, connected, confident, full of its own vision.&nbsp; So what is it like living there?
