Day 1 of the Wikimania was a definite success.  Everyone arrived
\nand found their way to the hostel (and, in Achal’s case, the hotel)
\nwithout incident; the hackers self-assembled to a midday start, and in
\nthe process of discussing the first day’s topic<\/a>, hacked out a first draft of a metadata<\/a> solution.<\/p>\n

After the day’s talks, and after what seemed like a fine dorm-style
\nmeal, there were many good, quiet discussions and a viewing of Pi<\/span>. Eugene and Sven and I talked about the active disinterest in HtmlArea<\/a>
\nby Wiki programmers<\/span>, including many of our friends.  Without my
\nmentioning my interview with Ward Cunningham<\/a>, Eugene commented that
\nWard probably wouldn’t feel strongly about it. 
\n   
\nWhen I pointed out that, in fact, Ward had twice <\/span>listed “lack of WYSIWYG
\neditors”<\/font> <\/span> as the greatest remaining barrier to the general public
\nusing wikis, Eugene was surprised, and commented that nobody had blogged
\nabout it.  Which was true!  Mea maxima culpa<\/span>. <\/p>\n

So, I’m going to blog about it now; better late than never.
