From this collection we\u2019ve chosen two pieces to highlight: one for its interesting instructional layout, another for its glowing reviews.<\/p>\n<p>Mekeel\u2019s 1973-74 site-specific work <i>Moveable Feast<\/i> describes how the three groups in the piece, Jazz Group, Old C, and Feast, are to play music and move their bodies. He snarkily writes, \u201cIt doesn\u2019t often happen that the newest piece on a concert program is also the best, but that is how it was last night at Tanglewood\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a truly impressed given he also states, \u201cOtherwise, the concert offered the usual assortment of contemporary commonplaces and experimental failures, with an elderly additive to leaven the lump.\u201d Extra kudos to Mekeel, given that Henahan also wrote a provocative piece for the <i>New York Times<\/i> titled \u201cLet\u2019s Hear It For Composer Persons,\u201d where the first sentence reads, \u201cEveryone knows women can\u2019t compose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.harvard.edu\/loebmusic\/files\/2020\/07\/Mekeel-newspaper-2.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" Keeper of the Isham Memorial Library, Christina Linklater. We also have another Mekeel collection, The <a href=\"http:\/\/id.lib.harvard.edu\/alma\/990150594720203941\/catalog\">Joyce Mekeel Collection of Musical Scores in Graphic Notation, 1952-1969<\/a>.
