See how the orient dew
\nShed from the bosom of the Morn
\nInto the blowing roses,
\nYet careless of its mansion new,
\nFor the clear region where \u2019twas born,
\nRound in its self incloses:
\nAnd in its little globe\u2019s extent
\nFrames, as it can, its native element.
\nHow it the purple flow\u2019r does slight,
\nScarce touching where it lyes,
\nBut gazing back upon the skies,
\nShines with a mournful light,
\nLike its own tear,
\nBecause so long divided from the sphere.
\nRestless it roules, and unsecure,
\nTrembling, lest it grow impure;
\nTill the warm sun pitty its pain
\nAnd to the skies exhale it back again.
\nSo the soul, that drop, that ray,
\nOf the clear fountain of eternal day,
\n(Could it within the humane flow\u2019r be seen)
\nRememb\u2019ring still its former height,
\nShuns the sweat leaves and blossoms green,
\nAnd, recollecting its own light,
\nDoes in its pure and circling thoughts express
\nThe greater heaven in an heaven less.
\nIn how coy a figure wound,
\nEvery way it turns away;
\n(So the world-excluding round)
\nYet receiving in the day.
\nDark beneath, but bright above,
\nHere disdaining, there in love.
\nHow loose and easie hence to go;
\nHow girt and ready to ascend;
\nMoving but on a point below,
\nIt all about does upwards bend.
\nSuch did the manna\u2019s sacred dew destil,
\nWhite and intire, though congeal\u2019d and chill;
\nCongeal\u2019d on Earth; but does, dissolving, run
