The scenes of violence describe the fear and distrust after the 9\/11 attacks. However, the \u201cawaken- ing\u201d symbolizes obtaining the knowledge that follow- ers of Islam are not to be feared more than any other human being.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nI see the fires and feel a flame<br \/>\nSerene sky ignited by moon and star<br \/>\nUnforgivable<br \/>\nMy tongue is crushed under the hatred<br \/>\nToo much to express<br \/>\nBecoming Dumb<\/p>\n<p>I see his sword rise high<br \/>\nSawing, killing, butchering<br \/>\nThe countless Innocent<\/p>\n<p>I awake<\/p>\n<p>I see him sleeping next to me<br \/>\nOur breathing soft and in unison<br \/>\nBecoming One<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a poem I wrote to describe attitudes towards Muslims guided by both ignorance and understand- ing.
