The Union Home Ministry has asked India’s Central Bureau of Investigation to <\/FONT>reopen<\/FONT><\/A> cases against Congress party leaders Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar, and Dharam Dass Shastri. In other cases against these politicians, however, the CBI has proven to be poor prosecutors, failing to <\/FONT>prepare<\/FONT><\/A> arguments and <\/FONT>marshall<\/FONT><\/A> evidence. The ministry, however, is yet to decide whether to re-open cases against police officials and bureaucrats indicted by the Commission—which had passed severe strictures against nine police officials, including the then Police Commissioner of Delhi S C Tandon and DCP Chander Prakesh. <\/FONT><\/EM><\/P><\/BLOCKQUOTE>

The two committees constituted in August to recommend <\/FONT>enhancement<\/FONT><\/A> of compensation measures to survivors of the 1984 pogroms are likely to issue their <\/FONT>report<\/FONT><\/A> soon:<\/FONT><\/P>

Set up on August 13 by the Union Home Ministry to look into payment of compensation to next of the kin of about 3,500 Sikhs killed in the riots and deal with the issue of providing additional livelihood to them, the two committees will make all “efforts to fulfill the promises made by the Prime Minister” in Parliament during the last Monsoon Session in the wake of Nanavati Commission’s report, official sources said today.<\/FONT> <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/EM><\/P><\/BLOCKQUOTE><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
