Jaswant Singh Khalra was a human rights activist who was abducted <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">from his home by the police in 1995. (For a full <A href=\"http:\/\/www.ensaaf.org\/dispatch-mar05.pdf\">background<\/A>, see the March 2005 <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Dispatch.) <\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Ravinder Singh was summoned to make a statement based on the statements of SPO <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Kuldeep Singh, the key witness in the Khalra case. <\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<P><EM><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Kuldeep Singh, SPO, had alleged in the court of Mr Ravinder Singh, who was <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Magistrate at Jalandhar then, that Jaswant Singh Khalra&#x2019;s wife, Paramjit Kaur, had <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">offered Rs 50,000 to him to lodge a complaint against the police.<\/FONT><\/EM><\/P><\/BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Kuldeep Singh later denied this statement, saying that the accused police officers <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">intimidated him into giving a statement that he had been offered Rs 50,000 by <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Paramjit Kaur.<\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">The next hearing for the case is August 10 and Ravinder Singh was will appear before <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">the court on August 31.<\/FONT><BR><\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During a July 25 hearing on the Khalra muder case, Additional District Sessions Judge Bhupinder Singh summoned Faridkot Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Singh to make a statement.
