Although the police has ended its counterinsurgency operations, reports of torture and custodial deaths regular surface in Punjab.  Most recently, the torture<\/A><\/FONT> of a famous kabaddi player drew attention:<\/FONT><\/P>

22-year-old Jasvir was allegedly picked up by the Kotkapura police at the instance of his wife’s maternal uncle, Suba Singh, who is part of the security detail with former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal. <\/EM><\/FONT><\/P>
\n

The victim was allegedly brutally tortured for two days at the city police station here. <\/EM><\/FONT><\/P>
\n

The victim was medically examined at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, on the directions of additional chief judicial magistrate Faridkot. <\/EM><\/FONT><\/P>
\n

The court has also summoned the Kotkapura SHO to explain the matter. The victim has written to Punjab Human Rights Commission, DGP Punjab and other higher authorities for registration of a case against SHO Nachhatar Singh, ASI Iqbal Singh and his wife’s uncle Suba Singh.<\/EM><\/FONT><\/P><\/BLOCKQUOTE>
