The bail hearing<\/A><\/FONT> for the 14 accused in jail began today in the Bilkis Rasool case, and will resume on May 6.  The defense counsel objected to the recording of statements of Bilkis and her husband by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).<\/FONT><\/P>
\n

Rasool was gang-raped and witnessed the murder of 14 family members, three of whom were also raped.  The Supreme Court intervened in this case and turned the investigation over to the CBI, after finding that several police officers had attempted to destroy evidence.  20 people have been charged, including four police officers and two doctors.  <\/FONT><\/P>
\n

Yesterday, a local court also issued a non-bailable warrant<\/A><\/FONT> against a police officer:<\/FONT><\/P>

The latest warrants come against R.S Bhagora, who was the then police station officer in the area.<\/EM><\/FONT><\/P>
\n

The court also exempted two more senior superintendents of police, named in the chargesheet, from being present for Friday’s hearing but directed them to appear before it on May 4.<\/EM><\/FONT><\/P><\/BLOCKQUOTE>
