A local Ahmedabad court has issued warrants<\/A><\/FONT> against 2 of the accused in the Bilkis Bano gang rape and murder case, arising from the Gujarat pogroms against Muslims in 2002.  The accused, both doctors charged with falsifying the post-mortem reports of the victims, were not present in court, despite the summons issued to them on April 19.  The CBI has named 20 people as accused in its chargesheet.  4 police officers—those who were in charge of the investigation into the gang rape and murders—have been asked to appear before the court on April 30.<\/FONT><\/P>

Two of the accused—senior police officers—filed for anticipatory bail<\/A> for the second time<\/FONT>.  The CBI has blamed them for the destruction of evidence in the post-massacre investigation.  An Ahmedabad fast court had earlier rejected their first request for anticipatory bail.  14 accused are in jail and their bail hearing will be on April 27.<\/FONT><\/P>

Two accused have also been arrested<\/A><\/FONT> in the Best Bakery case in response to warrants issued after the Supreme Court’s recent order.  The other 19 accused have fled.  <\/FONT><\/P>
