The Gujarat government filed an application<\/A><\/FONT> on Monday in response to the Supreme Court’s order<\/A><\/FONT> in the Best Bakery case that ordered the retrial of the case outside of Gujarat.  The government claimed that key witness Zahira Sheikh had never asked for the transfer of the trial from Gujarat:<\/FONT><\/P>

Claiming, inaccurately, that ‘‘no material was placed before the court justifying this transfer outside the state,’’ the government’s application, filed on Monday, asks the court to modify its April 12 judgment. And keep the re-trial within Gujarat.<\/EM><\/FONT><\/P><\/BLOCKQUOTE>

In his article, Manoj Mitta points out how the Gujarat government’s application contradicts components of Zahira’s special leave petition, and that the government in fact misstates what’s in Zahira’s petition:<\/FONT><\/P>
