{"id":292,"date":"2004-04-22T09:58:39","date_gmt":"2004-04-22T13:58:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/jaskaran\/2004\/04\/22\/gujarat-government-files-application"},"modified":"2004-04-22T09:58:39","modified_gmt":"2004-04-22T13:58:39","slug":"gujarat-government-files-application-in-response-to-best-bakery-ord","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/jaskaran\/2004\/04\/22\/gujarat-government-files-application-in-response-to-best-bakery-ord\/","title":{"rendered":"Gujarat Government Files Application in Response to Best Bakery Order"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a183'><\/a><\/p>\n<p><P><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">The Gujarat government filed an <A href=\"http:\/\/www.indianexpress.com\/full_story.php?content_id=45564\">application<\/A><\/FONT><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> on Monday in response to the Supreme Court&#x2019;s <A href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/jaskaran\/2004\/04\/12#a168\">order<\/A><\/FONT><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> in the Best Bakery case that ordered the retrial of the case outside of Gujarat.&nbsp; The government claimed that key witness Zahira Sheikh had never asked for the transfer of the trial from Gujarat:<\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><EM>Claiming, inaccurately, that &#x2018;&#x2018;no material was placed before the court justifying this transfer outside the state,&#x2019;&#x2019; the government&#x2019;s application, filed on Monday, asks the court to modify its April 12 judgment.
