They had filed an appeal to the sentences, which were for the <A href=\"http:\/\/www.tribuneindia.com\/2005\/20050408\/punjab1.htm#22\">disappearances<\/A> of seven male members of a Majitha family in 1991. <\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">In 1991, Baldev Singh, Balwinder Singh, and a group of others went to the home Sadhu Singh and abducted him, his son, and his five grandsons. <\/FONT><\/P><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><EM>Despite repeated requests and representations to the police and civil authorities, no step was taken to get them released<\/EM>.<\/FONT><\/P><\/BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Although the men have disappeared, Baldev and Balwinder Singh were charged only with kidnapping, not murder, while the other accused were acquitted.<\/FONT> <\/P><\/FONT><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The High Court has upheld the life sentences of of Punjab Police DSP Baldev Singh and Head Constable Balwinder Singh.
