{"id":271,"date":"2004-04-02T10:32:06","date_gmt":"2004-04-02T14:32:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/jaskaran\/2004\/04\/02\/un-human-rights-committee-set-to-con"},"modified":"2004-04-02T10:32:06","modified_gmt":"2004-04-02T14:32:06","slug":"un-human-rights-committee-set-to-conclude-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/jaskaran\/2004\/04\/02\/un-human-rights-committee-set-to-conclude-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"UN Human Rights Committee Set to Conclude Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a159'><\/a><\/p>\n<p><P><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">On April 3, 2004, the Human Rights Committee will conclude its meeting, which began on March 16 in New York.&nbsp; The Human Rights Committee evaluates the compliance of a State Party with the <A href=\"http:\/\/www.unhchr.ch\/html\/menu3\/b\/a_ccpr.htm\">International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights<\/A> (ICCPR).&nbsp; State Parties are required to regularly submit reports regarding their compliance, which are then evaluated by the independent experts comprising the HRC.&nbsp; In this meeting, the HRC planned to examine Germany, Lithuania, Suriname, and Uganda.<\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">India submitted its <A href=\"http:\/\/www.unhchr.ch\/TBS\/DOC.NSF\/385c2add1632f4a8c12565a9004dc311\/83d5a36cc444d1d3c125640400501464?OpenDocument&amp;Highlight=2,india\">last report<\/A><\/FONT><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">, which was due in 1992, in 1996. It was evaluated in July 1997 in a series of three meetings (<A href=\"http:\/\/www.unhchr.ch\/tbs\/doc.nsf\/(Symbol)\/f2261dd9e000fbe4802565090051a509?Opendocument\">1<\/A><\/FONT><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">, <A href=\"http:\/\/www.unhchr.ch\/tbs\/doc.nsf\/(Symbol)\/cb2b6259fba769988025655a004ff24c?Opendocument\">2<\/A><\/FONT><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">, <A href=\"http:\/\/www.unhchr.ch\/tbs\/doc.nsf\/(Symbol)\/010e7badb6b82f76802565620056dabd?Opendocument\">3<\/A><\/FONT><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">).
