The Nanavati Commission has summoned key politicians and police officers, accused of perpetrating violence against the Sikhs in Delhi during the anti-Sikh pogroms of November 1984, to the Commission in January.  <\/FONT>Outlook India<\/A><\/FONT> writes:<\/FONT><\/P>

The Nanavati Commission, probing the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, today asked senior Congress leaders Jagish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar and Pondicherry IGP U K Katna and other noticees to reply by January nine to the evidence brought against them on record by the witnesses.<\/FONT><\/P><\/BLOCKQUOTE>

The Nanavati Commission also <\/FONT>extended the reply deadline<\/A><\/FONT> for other police officers and politicians it had summoned earlier.<\/FONT><\/P>
\n

Recently, the Indian Supreme Court also <\/FONT>criticized<\/FONT><\/A> the central government\/Delhi police for withdrawing a case originating from the crimes committed during these pogroms.  The police supported its withdrawal of the case, arguing that the withdrawal would help maintain communal harmony.  Just today, Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, <\/FONT>made a similar argument<\/FONT><\/A> for keeping cases on crimes committed during the organized violence against Muslims in Gujarat courts.<\/FONT><\/P>
