{"id":118,"date":"2006-01-27T17:41:42","date_gmt":"2006-01-27T21:41:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/jaskaran\/2006\/01\/27\/court-orders-compensation-for-1984-v"},"modified":"2006-01-27T17:41:42","modified_gmt":"2006-01-27T21:41:42","slug":"court-orders-compensation-for-1984-victims-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/jaskaran\/2006\/01\/27\/court-orders-compensation-for-1984-victims-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Court orders compensation for 1984 victims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a598'><\/a><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ordered the Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Governments pay <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indlawnews.com\/C4619F07856C2A5FD2A0D0A1EB65B3CD\">compensation<\/a> to the families of the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh pogroms by April 30.<\/p>\n<p><\/font><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left: 40px;\"><font size=\"2\">The<br \/>\nHigh Court directed the state governments to provide Rs two lakh as<br \/>\nex-gratia to the family of the deceased victims and 40 per cent of the<br \/>\namount as additional relief.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">Regarding<br \/>\nloss of property during the riots, the High Court directed the<br \/>\ngovernments to provide the amount of loss as estimated by the district<br \/>\ncollector besides an additional 40 per cent of the loss.<\/font>\n<\/div>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><br \/>\nThe petition also stated that the banks must be directed to follow the<br \/>\nReserve Bank of India&#8217;s rules for granting loans to victims.
