In October 2005, ENSAAF released a report, Punjab <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.ensaaf.org\/ft-report.html\"><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Police: Fabricating Terrorism through Illegal Detention and Torture<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">, detailing how Indian security forces routinely use illegal detention, torture, and threats against family members to target the accused. Further, the Indian police have fabricated stories of attempted militant crimes and recovered weapons, concealing their escalation in human rights violations. <\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Last week, the Punjab police claim to have captured <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.tribuneindia.com\/2005\/20051121\/punjab1.htm#2\"><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">three<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> militants in one arrest, and another&nbsp;<\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.tribuneindia.com\/2005\/20051121\/punjab1.htm#3\"><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">three<\/FONT><\/A> <FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">in another series of arrests.&nbsp; However, just as the police were making claims of the arrests of Gurdeep Singh, Gurjit Singh, and Gurpreet Singh, the families of Gurdeep Singh and Gurjit Singh were giving a <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.tribuneindia.com\/2005\/20051120\/punjab1.htm#4\"><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">press<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\"> conference about the illegal detention of the men:<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><EM>Addressing a press conference here today, the families of Gurjit Singh, Parasram Nagar resident, and Gurdeep Singh, Dhobiana road resident, alleged that the police rounded them up on Thursday and since then they had not returned. In a telegram sent to the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Ms Shinderpal Kaur, wife of Gurjit Singh, said the police came to their home looking for her husband on November 15 when he was out of town. Next day 20 persons of the locality presented her husband before the police and he was released on the same night after interrogation.<\/EM><\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><EM>She alleged that four-five members of the CIA staff again came to their home on November 17 and took him along with them&#8230;.<\/EM><\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><EM>Mr Nihal Singh, father of Gurdeep, alleged that his son was first picked up on Tuesday and released after interrogation the next day.
