{"id":577,"date":"2013-04-11T11:40:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-11T15:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/internationallegalstudies\/?p=577"},"modified":"2013-04-11T11:40:00","modified_gmt":"2013-04-11T15:40:00","slug":"important-information-for-students-traveling-abroad-this-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/internationallegalstudies\/2013\/04\/11\/important-information-for-students-traveling-abroad-this-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"Important Information for Students Traveling Abroad This Summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A reminder that Harvard University requires ALL students who are traveling under University auspices (that is, receiving either credit or funding) to complete these three requirements prior to departure:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>register the trip in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelregistry.harvard.edu\/\">Harvard Travel Registry<\/a>. This enables the University to locate you quickly and provide assistance in the event of an emergency (i.e. natural disaster, civil unrest, etc). Registering is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">required<\/span> for all students traveling on trips funded or arranged by the University and strongly recommended for everyone.\u00a0 Students should create a profile in the Travel Registry and then record their specific trip information and make sure the information stays up-to-date.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>review, sign, and return the appropriate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.harvard.edu\/news\/spotlight\/ils\/iti\/required-documents.html#AssumptionofRiskForm\">Assumption of Risk and General Release<\/a> to your sponsoring HLS program.<\/li>\n<li>obtain a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalsupport.harvard.edu\/international_health_safety\/travel_assist.shtml\">Harvard Travel Assist<\/a> membership card and review the program\u2019s services. \u00a0Harvard Travel Assist provides 24-hour worldwide emergency medical and evacuation assistance for Harvard\u2019s employees and students traveling on University related activities. It is a supplement to (not a substitute for) health insurance and can provide medical information and evacuation services, emergency assistance (including translation services and legal referrals), and general travel advice, among other things.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0In addition, HLS students should review Harvard\u2019s Global Support Services\u2019 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalsupport.harvard.edu\/international_health_safety\/travel_ratings.shtml\">travel risk ratings<\/a>.\u00a0 Students who are considering travel to an area that is categorized as high-risk must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0complete and submit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalsupport.harvard.edu\/docs\/questionnaire_graduate_travel.doc\">Questionnaire for Graduate Student Travel<\/a><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0consult with <a href=\"mailto:steve_taylor@harvard.edu\">Steve Taylor<\/a>, Associate Director of International Safety and Security<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is necessary for travel in conjunction with courses or clinics as well as independent travel.\u00a0 Please be aware that HLS may advise against &#8212; and may even withhold support for &#8212; travel that is deemed to pose excessive risk.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on each of these steps, and traveling abroad in general, please visit our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.harvard.edu\/news\/spotlight\/ils\/iti\/index.html\">international travel webpage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One more reminder:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/internationallegalstudies\/files\/2013\/04\/Visix-ILS-Summer-International-Travel.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-578\" title=\"Visix-ILS-Summer International Travel\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/internationallegalstudies\/files\/2013\/04\/Visix-ILS-Summer-International-Travel.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"860\" height=\"564\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/internationallegalstudies\/files\/2013\/04\/Visix-ILS-Summer-International-Travel.jpg 860w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/internationallegalstudies\/files\/2013\/04\/Visix-ILS-Summer-International-Travel-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/internationallegalstudies\/files\/2013\/04\/Visix-ILS-Summer-International-Travel-457x300.jpg 457w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(<a title=\"Summer International Travel?
