These summer fellowships provide Harvard Law School students with the opportunity to spend eight weeks engaged in public service with an international scope and\/or relevant to countries in development or those making transitions to peace, stability, and democracy.<\/p>\n<p>The first step\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hls.harvard.edu\/dept\/ils\/summer-work-abroad\/chayes-fellowships\/information-for-students\/seeking-a-placement\/\">seeking a placement<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 is now underway. Students should be in contact with prospective placement organizations to discuss the nature of the summer work and try to secure a firm offer of a position.\u00a0 Explore our list of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hls.harvard.edu\/dept\/ils\/summer-work-abroad\/chayes-fellowships\/information-for-students\/2018-placement-organizations\/\">pre-approved placement organizations<\/a>\u00a0(regularly updated); students are also encouraged to contact the Chayes Program\u00a0(c\/o International Legal Studies) about adding new organizations to this roster.<\/p>\n<p>To present their qualifications, students should send a resume and cover letter directly to the organization, unless the organization requests otherwise.\u00a0 Students are encouraged to apply to a number of organizations and it can take time to secure an appropriate international placement.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline to <a href=\"http:\/\/hls.harvard.edu\/dept\/ils\/summer-work-abroad\/chayes-fellowships\/information-for-students\/applying-for-a-chayes-fellowship\/\">apply for a Chayes Fellowship<\/a> is <strong>Thursday, February 1<\/strong>.
