Boston Area Artists Present Israel \u2013 Lebanon Relief Event
\nEmmanuel Church, Back Bay
\nMonday, August 7 at 8pm<\/p>\n
Boston,\u00a0 July 27 \u2013 An ad-hoc coalition of prominent Boston-area artists will be singing, playing, and declaiming\u00a0 at a free concert on Monday, August 7, all in an effort to raise funds for civilian victims of the conflict between Israel and Lebanon.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis event will be non-sectarian, non-partisan and non-political,\u201d\u00a0 insists Boston Camerata director Joel Cohen,\u00a0 one of the event\u2019s organizers.\u00a0 \u201cBut it is clear that all of the participants,\u00a0 like so many of us in the public at large,\u00a0 are horrified by this recent violence.\u00a0 We want to do something to help those who suffer from it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have gotten different segments of the Boston arts community working together on this,\u201d continues co-producer Kareem Roustom,\u00a0 a Syrian-American composer and member of the Sharq Arab-American ensemble.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019ll have topnotch performers representing theatre,\u00a0 classical and early music,\u00a0 Arabic,\u00a0 Sephardic-Jewish,\u00a0 and Turkish styles,\u00a0 as well as American music.\u00a0 We\u2019ve discovered that many performing artists want to be a part of this.\u00a0 So many of us want\u00a0 to contribute what we can.\u201d<\/p>\n
The evening will include appearance by members of the following institutions and organizations (organization names supplied for identification purposes only): American Repertory Theater;\u00a0 The Boston Camerata; The Boston Philharmonic;\u00a0 D\u00fcnya Turkish Music Ensemble;\u00a0 Emmanuel Music; From the Top; Sharq Arab-American Ensemble; Voices of Black Persuasion.<\/p>\n
The performance roster, still incomplete as other artists are added,\u00a0 includes Anne Az\u00e9ma, Jeremy Geidt, Mehmet Sanlikol,Craig Smith, and Benjamin Zander.<\/p>\n
Time for the benefit concert is 8 PM on Monday,\u00a0 August 7.\u00a0 The doors of Emmanuel Church in Boston\u2019s Back Bay will be open to all and admission is free.\u00a0 Donations will be requested from audience members with proceeds going to the International Red Cross;\u00a0 other charities have been invited to be present to accept gifts as well in the church foyer.<\/p>\n
Emmanuel Church,\u00a0 on Newbury Street next to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and just a block from the Boston Public Garden,\u00a0 is easily reachable by public transportation via the Arlington and Copley Square T stops.<\/p>\n
