Luke, this was the first work of its kind that\u00a0displayed the various types of anesthesia\u00a0combinations used in operative dentistry. \u00a0Luke gives brief descriptions of anesthesia\u00a0usage, methods of\u00a0application, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of equipment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2015\/08\/Img0031.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-6355\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2015\/08\/Img0031-300x278.jpg\" alt=\"Img0031\" width=\"300\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2015\/08\/Img0031-300x278.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2015\/08\/Img0031.jpg 877w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2015\/08\/Img0032.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-6356\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2015\/08\/Img0032-300x278.jpg\" alt=\"Img0032\" width=\"300\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2015\/08\/Img0032-300x278.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2015\/08\/Img0032.jpg 877w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These two illustrations depict the\u00a0administration of ethyl chloride. \u00a0Apparently ethyl chloride in dentistry was quite new at this point in time and was a pretty good option, at least as good as nitrous oxide according to the author. \u00a0The volume was almost complete when ethyl chloride really came onto the dentistry scene and\u00a0Luke\u00a0considered it to be such an excellent and valuable option that he revised the text to include it. \u00a0It is still used today as a\u00a0<span class=\"hvr\">local<\/span> <span class=\"hvr\">anesthetic and a\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"hvr\">potent<\/span> <span class=\"hvr\">inhalation<\/span> <span class=\"hvr\">anesthetic. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2015\/08\/Img0030-e1440432002253.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6354 size-medium\" style=\"margin-right: 5px\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2015\/08\/Img0030-e1440432002253-213x300.jpg\" alt=\"Img0030\" width=\"213\" height=\"300\" align=\"left\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2015\/08\/Img0030-e1440432002253-213x300.jpg 213w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2015\/08\/Img0030-e1440432002253-726x1024.jpg 726w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2015\/08\/Img0030-e1440432002253.jpg 963w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 213px) 100vw, 213px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #32322f\"><span class=\"EXLDetailsDisplayVal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/id.lib.harvard.edu\/aleph\/014480973\/catalog\" target=\"_blank\">Anaesthesia in dental surgery<\/a> by Thomas D.
