appeared as the frontispiece in\u00a0his books. \u00a0Henri Gamache another author from that time\u00a0published <em>The Magic of Herbs<\/em>, <em>Protection Against Evil and Harm<\/em>, and <em>The Master Key to Occult Secrets. \u00a0<\/em>What is interesting is that apparently neither one of these men were real, both were supposedly a\u00a0<em>nom de plume\u00a0<\/em>of a man named Young. \u00a0The story goes that Young turned over the copyright and publication rights to Joseph Kay, of Dorne Publishing, to clear up a debt.<\/p>\n<p>What makes it more confusing is that at one point\u00a0Joseph Kay under the name of Joseph <span style=\"color: #252525\">Spitalnick\u00a0claimed authorship<\/span>, but the fact that some of the De Claremont books were previously published under a different house clearly disproves his claim. \u00a0There is still yet\u00a0another theory that has been posited\u00a0which comes from\u00a0Ed Kay, son of Joseph, who says that Henri Gamache was actually a college educated young Jewish woman who worked for Joseph and wrote books for him. \u00a0Regardless of who authored this text it says volumes about popular interest in the early 20th-century.<\/p>\n<p><em>Legends of Incense, Herbs, and Oils<\/em>\u00a0instructs the layperson on certain herbs and oils and how they are related to magic and the occult. \u00a0Of course the author helpfully directs the reader on where they can purchase these items or recommends that they consult another one of his books for clarification or proper usage. \u00a0Capitalism at work!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/12\/IMG_0039.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5329 \" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/12\/IMG_0039-196x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0039\" width=\"206\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/12\/IMG_0039-196x300.jpg 196w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/12\/IMG_0039-672x1024.jpg 672w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/12\/IMG_0039.jpg 709w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 206px) 100vw, 206px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/12\/IMG_0040.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5331 \" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/12\/IMG_0040-196x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0040\" width=\"204\" height=\"312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/12\/IMG_0040-196x300.jpg 196w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/12\/IMG_0040-669x1024.jpg 669w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/12\/IMG_0040.jpg 688w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 204px) 100vw, 204px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/id.lib.harvard.edu\/aleph\/014231997\/catalog%20\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"searchword\" style=\"color: #32322f\">Legends<\/span><span style=\"color: #32322f\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"searchword\" style=\"color: #32322f\">of<\/span><span style=\"color: #32322f\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"searchword\" style=\"color: #32322f\">incense<\/span><span style=\"color: #32322f\">,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"searchword\" style=\"color: #32322f\">herb<\/span><span style=\"color: #32322f\">\u00a0&amp;\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"searchword\" style=\"color: #32322f\">oil<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #32322f\"><a href=\"http:\/\/id.lib.harvard.edu\/aleph\/014231997\/catalog%20\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0magic<\/a>\u00a0<span class=\"EXLDetailsDisplayVal\">by Lewis de Claremont.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"EXLDetailsDisplayVal\">[New York] : Dorene Pub.
