Rouleau Libre it was issued as a matchbox measuring\u00a08 x 6 cm and contains a number of objects. \u00a0On a folded sheet is a poem by Pierre Mr<a style=\"color: #736238\">\u00e9<\/a>jen along with a graphic of some sort. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/07\/KIC_Image_0002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4753\" style=\"margin-left: 5px\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/07\/KIC_Image_0002-219x300.jpg\" alt=\"KIC_Image_0002\" width=\"289\" height=\"395\" align=\"right\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/07\/KIC_Image_0002-219x300.jpg 219w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/07\/KIC_Image_0002-749x1024.jpg 749w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/07\/KIC_Image_0002.jpg 1448w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 289px) 100vw, 289px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Little is know about Mr<a style=\"color: #736238\">\u00e9<\/a>jen he appears to be a poet that produced a number of artists&#8217; books for Les Editions Rouleau Libre. \u00a0An additional folded sheet contains two quotations by\u00a0Henri Michaux and Maurice Blanchot along with small illustrations. \u00a0What was most unexpected were the matches, marble, and cigarette that accompanied the\u00a0folded sheets. \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4754\" style=\"margin-right: 5px\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/07\/KIC_Image_0004-294x300.jpg\" alt=\"KIC_Image_0004\" width=\"294\" height=\"300\" align=\"left\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/07\/KIC_Image_0004-294x300.jpg 294w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/07\/KIC_Image_0004-1005x1024.jpg 1005w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/07\/KIC_Image_0004.jpg 1116w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 294px) 100vw, 294px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The work is identified as example no. 11, out of how many we cannot be sure, \u00a0and there was little definitive\u00a0information about this cleverly constructed item.<\/p>\n<p>I did discover that the cigarette is from a German brand called Roth Handle whose identifying hand logo has been recreated on the back of the matchbox with the title of the work.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/07\/KIC_Image_0001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4752\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/07\/KIC_Image_0001-267x300.jpg\" alt=\"KIC_Image_0001\" width=\"351\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/07\/KIC_Image_0001-267x300.jpg 267w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/07\/KIC_Image_0001.jpg 770w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 351px) 100vw, 351px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Part of the Fine Arts Library collection <em>La\u00a0<\/em><\/span><em><span class=\"exact\" style=\"color: #000000\">main<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span class=\"exact\" style=\"color: #000000\"><em>espac\u00e9e<\/em>.\u00a0Paris : Rouleau Libre, 1990 can be located in<a href=\"http:\/\/id.lib.harvard.edu\/aleph\/014103127\/catalog\" target=\"_blank\"> Hollis<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Thanks to Alison Harris, Santo Domingo Project Manager for contributing this post.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This post is part of an ongoing series featuring items from the newly acquired\u00a0Julio Mario Santo Domingo Collection.
